The Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams wishes to send condolences to the family of the late Dr Vanguard Mkosana – a dedicated freedom fighter, seasoned administrator, and distinguished public servant. He held various senior positions in government and was a Special Advisor to the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies from June 2020 until his untimely death. Dr Mkosana played a critical role in the execution of the mandate of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Technologies, always eager to share wise advice on key projects.

His wealth of experience and knowledge of public service earned him great respect in the sector and among colleagues. As a result of his depth of knowledge, he served on various boards of state-owned entities including Mintek and the Eastern Cape Rural Development Agency, among others.

A former trade unionist, Dr Mkosana played an influential role in the formation of the National Union of Mineworkers. He also served in the executive committee of the South African Congress of Trade Unions. He was also the Head of the Media department for the South African Railways and Harbours Workers' Union. He had also served as General Secretary for the Congress of South African Writers. Dr Mkosana holds a doctorate in Journalism from Charles University in Prague in the Czech Republic. He also completed Wits University's Harvard Business School's Executive Programme for Southern Africa.

We will miss his wise counsel and contribution,” said Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams.

His passing is not only a loss to his family, but to the South African at large, especially the telecoms sector, added Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams.
