The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies Welcomes Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni and Deputy Minister Philly Mapulane

Following the announcement by His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa on changes in the National Executive, the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies welcomes Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni and Deputy Minister Philly Mapulane to the department.

The new leadership joins the department at a critical time, where strategic planning and rapid implementation is geared towards its key priorities to better position South Africa as a global competitor, in the digital economy. These include fast-tracking the Broadcasting Digital Migration, release of Spectrum, infrastructure Investment & mass employment programme, Re-Industrialisation of the economy with focus on SMMEs, digital economy Masterplan & it’s implementation, digital & Future skills, repurposing of SOCs and the implementation of the PC4IR report.

This is also a time where the department continues to overhaul its policies and legislation in order to enable digital transformation. This is executed with a series of consultations to review the Electronic Communications Amendment Bill, the South African Broadcasting Corporation SOC Ltd Bill, the South African Postbank Amendment, Data and cloud policy and Audio- and audio-visual policy.

We trust that with cooperation and stern leadership, the department will achieve its mandate to lead South Africa’s digital transformation and achieve digital inclusion that must result in economic growth through creating an enabling policy & regulatory environment.

As we continue to serve!
