Minister Mondli Gungubele, as the Political Champion of Harry Gwala District Development Model (DDM) will be in Greater Kokstad Local Municipality, Harry Gwala District Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal Province on 28 November 2023, as part of his responsibilities to ensure implementation of key programmes of government aimed at addressing service delivery in the District.

 

The DCDT working together with its entities is implementing its flagship program the SA Connect Phase 2 aimed at significantly improving broadband penetration, reducing broadband prices, increasing employment and driving economic growth.

 

In the Harry Gwala District, the Department is implementing the Broadband Access Fund, a Presidential Employment Stimulus project as well as USAASA Broadband projects and concluding the Broadcast Digital Migration Two-Step approach to Analogue Switching-Off across all provinces.

 

BBI and Sentech are mandated to connect Wi-Fi Hotspots to public institutions and households. In Kwazulu-Natal deployment is aiming at a target of 6 867 public Wi-Fi hotspots to enable household coverage over the next 3- years.

 

The Minister will take this opportunity to launch the Broadband Access Fund, a project rolled out in Harry Gwala District Municipality aimed at providing partial subsidies to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to connect 50,000 Households and 3,000 Community Wi-Fi Hotspots.
