DCDT DEPUTY MINISTER, HON. PHILLY MAPULANE TO ENGAGE WITH ICT STAKEHOLDERS IN KWAZULU NATAL PROVINCE

In 2022, the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies launched the DigiTech platform, which is a digital platform for digital products/applications (Apps) developed by SMMEs in South Africa; aimed at commercializing locally developed digital innovations.

DigiTech serves as a digital distribution service developed, supported, and operated by the South African government. The platform allows users to browse and download approved apps developed across operating systems. It further promotes South African developed digital products/apps to expand their adoption and use.

As such, the Deputy Minister of DCDT in collaboration with the Moses Kotane Institute will be interacting with KZN ICT SMMEs to discuss how to further unlock opportunities within the ICT sector to enable a friendly environment for SMMEs to thrive as the backbone of our digital economy.

The aim of the session is to further discuss matters relating to broadband connectivity rollout projects, Digital Literacy training projects and scaling up of locally developed Digital innovations in South Africa with Industry players, local innovators, ICT SMMEs, local Internet Service providers and implementing partners for these projects. The session will also be used to understand the levels, attitudes and barriers to broadband connectivity rollout projects and digital literacy in marginalized communities of KwaZulu Natal and South Africa as a whole.

The Deputy Minister will be joined by the CEO of the Moses Kotane Institute Dr Thandeka Ellenson and other industry players.
