The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT) today marked Women’s Month with a powerful commemoration reaffirming the central role of women in shaping South Africa’s digital transformation journey.

Speaking at the event, Director-General Nonkqubela Jordan-Dyani urged women in the Department to stand tall and take up their rightful space:

“You need to be known for something. People may not always remember your title, but they will remember how you made them feel, how you related to them, and the difference you made. When women rise, DCDT rises. And when DCDT rises, the country rises.”

The DG also reflected on her own journey in the Department, moving through various roles over more than two decades:

“I started here at a very junior level. There were times I worked until late at night, staying motivated even when recognition was not immediate. That passion, consistency, and belief in myself unlocked opportunities and moved me forward. I want to encourage women to stand up in their corners, your journey can open doors you never imagined.” 2

Delivering his address, Minister Solly Malatsi emphasized the importance of teamwork, unity, and recognition of every woman’s contribution to the Department:

“Each of you plays a very important role in making this Department function. No leader, not even the Minister or the DG, knows everything. We depend on your knowledge and expertise to empower us to make the right decisions.”

The Minister also challenged staff to support one another and to bring the same positive energy seen at the celebration into their daily work:

“Let us bring the energy, dedication, and excitement I see here today into our offices every day. Let us elevate the stature of this Department and be proud to be part of Team DCDT.”

The Department’s Women’s Month programme provides a platform for reflection, recognition, and renewed commitment to building an inclusive digital future. It also reaffirms government’s broader goal of ensuring that women are not only participants but leaders in South Africa’s digital transformation journey.
