Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, officially opened GovTech 2025, marking the return of a key platform that brings together government, industry, and academia to find practical solutions that harness technology for better service delivery and broader inclusion.

The gathering taking place at the Chief Albert Luthuli Convention Centre in Durban, is intended to turn digital transformation into action. Ensuring that innovation translates into improved efficiency, transparency, and opportunities for all South Africans.

In his opening remarks, Malatsi acknowledged South Africa’s progress in expanding connectivity, rolling out new technologies, and removing barriers to investment, while pointing out that serious challenges remain. “The cost of connectivity is still disproportionately high for low-income households, device affordability remains a constraint, and our digital systems are fragmented and not interoperable,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of stronger partnerships to unlock the full benefits of digital technologies. “We must leverage the resources of the private sector, the political will of the public sector, and the knowledge of academia to drive the breakthroughs our country needs,” Malatsi emphasized.

GovTech 2025 is therefore positioned as a call to action. To use technology as a generational equalizer to unlock innovation.
