The Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, today opened a new, Coding and Robotics Lab at Jeffreys Bay Comprehensive High School.

The Lab, established in partnership with Software AG, is another example of the power of partnerships between government and the private sector to expand access to technology and unlock opportunity for young people.

The facility provides learners with computers, connectivity, coding platforms and robotics equipment, creating a structured environment where they can learn programming, logical thinking and problem solving. It introduces learners to the fundamentals of digital systems and supports the development of skills increasingly required across all sectors of the economy.

Through partnerships such as this, public infrastructure and private sector expertise are combined to deliver practical learning environments that schools would not be able to establish alone. This model enables faster rollout of digital resources and ensures learners are exposed to modern tools and industry relevant skills.

By opening access to digital infrastructure at school level, the initiative links education to real economic opportunity. The opening of this Lab gives learners the opportunity to move beyond basic computer literacy, empowering them with the skills they need to begin building, designing and creating with technology, strengthening their readiness for further study and employment.

This most recent Coding and Robotics Lab opening is a part of the broader and ongoing drive to broaden access to digital tools and ensure that more young South Africans can participate in a technology driven economy.
