Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams To Conduct Oversight Visit To Post Office And Oversee Implementation Of Broadcasting Digital Migration In Brandfort Free State

The Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams is scheduled to undertake an oversight visit to Brandfort, in the Free State on Tuesday, 2 February. Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams will be accompanied by MEC of Education in Free State Tate Makgoe, and district municipality representatives. This oversight visit will focus on the status of service delivery projects managed by entities of the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies. These include South African Post Office outlets as well as the rollout of the digital migration project by Universal Services and Access Agency of South Africa (USAASA) and SENTECH.

Last year, Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams initiated a review of the entire implementation process of the broadcasting digital migration project, to eliminate inefficiencies and bottlenecks. A number of inefficiencies were identified in the process including the slow pace of installation of the decoders, a lack of an effective aftercare service for faulty devices. The department has since also roped in signal distributor Sentech, an entity within the portfolio of the department, to assist with the management of installation to ensure quality assurance. The planned visit will be strictly conducted under applicable COVID-19 regulations under alert level 3.
