The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies Mourns the Passing of Former Broadbrand Infraco CEO, Ms Puleng Kwele

The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies mourns the passing of seasoned telecommunications professional and former CEO of Broadband Infraco, Ms Puleng Kwele.

Miss Kwele was a consummate professional with impeccable skills that afforded her opportunities to serve in various structures in the Telecommunications and ICT Sector.She started her career as a brewing trainee at the oldest commercial brewery in South Africa, Newland Brewery. That start later introduced Kwele to product management and various opportunities in the ICT sector, including giant cellular network in Africa, MTN.

As General Manager of Carrier Services at MTN, one of Kwele's responsibilities was postinvestment review and providing foundational work for the integration of businesses focused on the B2B market. Her time at MTN was underlined by the instrumental role she played in the procurement of the Telkom Mobile roaming deal which was valued at more than a billion rands. The period concluded with a step into the entrepreneurial environment with the founding and management of ICT consultancy, Mahlasedi.

During her time as CEO of Broadband Infraco from 2012 to 2017, she successfully oversaw the company through a strategic turnaround process which covered areas including corporate governance, revenue/financial management and infrastructure roll-out and upgrades Department of Communications and Digital Technologies Private Bag X 860 Pretoria 0001 Kwele’s corporate pedigree saw her accumulate a breadth of experience adjacent to capital investing. From selling self-founded entrepreneurial consulting businesses to leading the integration of entities acquired by a subsidiary of a New York Stock Exchange-listed company and driving the acquisition of a thirty percent stake of that entity by a women led investment company.

The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies, wishes to extend its condolences to the family, friends and all sector colleagues of Ms Kwele and continues to celebrate her as one of the game changers in the sector- as the country commemorates Women’s Month and celebrates women leaders in various ICT roles.
